They made ship happen.
Remember their names.

The survey arrives. You remember the smile, the extra effort, the person who turned your day around. Their name? Suddenly your brain has disembarked.

Ten memories with people from Mark’s voyages
A few faces from my voyages. The people are what stay with you.

Virgin’s post-voyage survey gives you a chance to recognize the crew who made your sailing special. By then, you’ve met people in restaurants, bars, the casino, your corridor and just about everywhere else. Remembering every name is asking quite a lot of a brain that’s also keeping track of dinner reservations.

My suggestion: let your phone remember the details while you enjoy the cruise.

One note. A few seconds. Proper credit.

  1. Start a note on day one. In Apple Notes, Google Keep or your usual notes app, create “Crew who made ship happen” with your ship and sailing dates. Pin it so you can find it quickly. A simple note works without ship Wi-Fi.
  2. Get the spelling from the name tag. A quick glance saves a lot of guessing later. If it’s hard to read, ask: “How do you spell your name? I’d love to mention you in the survey.”
  3. Write down where and why. Name, venue or role, and one specific thing they did. “Remembered my coffee order” says more than “great service.” A few words are enough.
  4. Fancy a quick photo? Ask first: “Would you mind a quick photo together?” If they’re happy to, it’s both a memory and a reminder. Add it to the note or put it in a voyage album. Respect a no, and catch them when they have a moment.
  5. Add it while it’s fresh. Type a line or use your keyboard’s microphone to dictate it. Check names afterward. Autocorrect has never met your bartender.

Your ready-to-use note

Copy this into your phone and add a new entry each time someone makes your day.

When the survey arrives, you’re ready.

Open your note beside the survey and turn those little reminders into a specific thank-you. Mention the name and venue so the person is easier to identify. If you missed a name, describe the venue, day, approximate time and what happened. Keep it honest and in your own words.

Example only: “[Name] at [venue] noticed I was unsure about the menu, took time to explain the choices and checked back afterward. That attention made me feel welcome.”

Set a reminder to look for the post-voyage email once you’re home. And while you’re aboard, say thank you in person too. No need to save all the good feedback for your inbox.

The faces behind the memories.

Some of the moments I’m glad I kept.

The little things are easy to forget to write down. They’re also the things worth recognizing.
