People often ask why I see the same show more than once. Sometimes across different ships. Sometimes multiple times on the same sailing.
Because where you stand, where you look and what you give your attention to can change the whole experience.
In Persephone, there are layers everywhere: the underworld, the gods above, performers on different stages and moments happening among the audience. In my experience, you cannot take it all in at once.
On the night in this reel, I came to watch a hand-to-hand sequence. I was focused on Christina and Patrick. Then I noticed Tyler, right there with the audience, completely present and committed. My attention shifted. The camera stayed where it was. And I knew I’d need to see the show again.
Live shows can evolve, too. A performer steps into a different role. Blocking changes. A familiar moment lands in a new way. Sometimes I watch the lead vocalist. Sometimes I discover a whole other story in the dancers just outside my usual line of sight.
The people behind the performance.
That’s what matters most to me. These are people who have trained for years, taken risks, left family behind and crossed oceans to do what they love.
In my original caption, I shared how @charli_circus flew from Australia to New York at their own expense just to audition. That kind of commitment stays with me.
While we’re on vacation, they’re living their dream and inviting us into it.
So yes, I’ll see the same show again. Live art deserves attention. Performers deserve support. And the magic rarely reveals itself all at once.
Which show would you happily watch again? Tell me on the reel, and give a performer who made your voyage some love.
